Ganden Moanstery... exploring the complex

The stage was inside a locked courtyard which contained the only real trees on the whole mountain. Later that night we discovered that it was a debating courtyard, used by many monks in the evening. Loud debating and clapping were heard well past 11 at night, and they kept it lit with electricity until then as well! A beautiful spot!
The large building on the hill was a temple that was still a bit under construction... REconstruction that is. It housed thousands and thousands of old print blocks recording scriptures, wisdoms and histories. It was like a library, but instead of storing the information on printed paper, they store the info carved into wooden blocks which can then be used indefinately to print the info as needed. The outside looked finished, but inside was still very bare. They were working on finishing the detail inside and starting to paint the unfinished wooden cabinets, pillars and beams.
